Stretch marks do not pose a health risk or hamper the proper functioning of the body, but they can negatively affect a person’s self-esteem and confidence. Whatever your age or size of your stretch marks, Match Skin Salon has a treatment solution for you. We offer a wide range of treatment options to take care of skin affected by stretch marks, which means we can tailor treatments to your specific goals. What’s more, our stretch marks treatments are suitable for all skin types, for both men and women.
At Match Skin Salon, we have a treatment option to suit you, whether your stretch marks are as a result of weight gain, pregnancy or puberty. Stretch marks are extremely common and can occur on any part of the body with both men and women. They appear commonly on the upper arms, stomach, breasts, thighs, buttocks, and anywhere the skin has stretched rapidly.
Stretch marks, also known as striae, are forms of scarring as a result of tearing of the thick layer of living tissue below the surface of the skin, dermis or epidermis. Rapid stretching of the skin leads to stretch marks, and it occurs during periods of rapid growth such as puberty, and periods of fast weight gain like in pregnancy or muscle building.
Therefore, stretch marks come about when any of these different factors occur, which damage or tear the dermis. When this elastic layer of skin becomes damaged, epidermis can lose shape, look sunken or raised, because the dermis (which is responsible in part for maintaining the shape of your skin) is damaged. Generally, stretch marks occur around the stomach, but they can appear anywhere on the skin. They are however mostly found around areas fat is stored by the body in large numbers.
The development of stretch marks are also caused by hormones called glucocorticoids. These affect the epidermis through the prevention of the formation of some essential components of the skin -collagen and elastin fibres – by fibroblasts. The skin is therefore unable to grow or stay firm and taut. Preventing the usual tasks of fibroblasts on the skin results in failure of the skin to produce supportive material. Therefore, the dermis tears and causes visible stretch marks on the epidermis.
Rapid growth spurts and weight gain can result in stretch marks on men too. Unlike women however, excessive weightlifting can also cause stretch marks for men, especially when muscle mass is added too quickly. Our recommended procedures and stretch mark removal treatments work for men as much as women. It is essential that people with medical concerns consult their doctor before seeking treatment for their stretch marks.
This non-surgical procedure focuses on gently removing the dead skin cells on the topmost surface of the skin. This treatment is incredibly popular and effective, because of its immediate and long term results. During diamond peel dermabrasion, a very light abrasion is created, using a small stainless steel head, containing a miniature diamond grain. The levels of abrasion can be adjusted to match individual skin type and colour. The resulting effect is the emergence of newer skin cells that create a brighter, younger-looking skin.

This treatment is also known as skin needling or micro needling. Collagen induction therapy is a minimally invasive procedure that is used to rejuvenate the skin. It is generally used to reduce the appearance of scars such as acne scarring, but can also be used to treat stretch marks. Both the Dermaroller and Dermapen™ are treatments that involve micro needling methods.
The Dermaroller is a device containing a wheel of micro needles that is rolled over the top layer of the skin to create a controlled trauma in the area. This micro-trauma stimulates collagen and elastin production in the deeper layers of the skin, which replaces the lost collagen in the stretch marks. Blood flow to the treated areas is also increased by the micro-trauma, which works to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and improve the skin texture.
The Dermapen™, which is considered by many as an effective and revolutionary treatment for stretch marks, is another micro-needling device. It is an effective alternative to the traditional Dermaroller. It makes use of a state of the art technology to tighten, lift and rejuvenate the skin. At Match Skin Salon, we provide treatments that make use of the Dermapen™ in order to help improve the body’s ability to naturally repair the epidermis, as well as the appearance of skin that has been affected by stretch marks.
