The Force Awakens the OPI Starlight Collection
The latest Star Wars movie is nearing its release date, and for those who have a leaning towards all things space and sci-fi, OPI have released their Christmas 2015 limited edition collection of 18 lacquers called the Starlight Collection. While this collection isn’t specifically aimed at those who dream of wielding a lightsaber and joining the Jedi or the Sith, the force is undoubtedly strong in this collection, so whether you plan to go to the cinema with friends, family or your partner this December to see Episode VII, at Match Nails we’re sure that you’ll get a few approving nods from fans with these galactic manicure and pedicure shades.
Starry Starry Manicured Nails
Nothing quite sets the tone for a space epic like that opening scene of space with the stars twinkling before text begins to crawl to tell us what Luke, Han, Leia and the Empire have been up to. Space has the great effect of letting us know that a story will be greater than what is seen at first, and of course those twinkling stars always look amazing. Following on from trends set in the autumn it looks like winter manicure fashion will be set to embrace all things that glitter, and ‘Center of the You-niverse‘ is a great way to embrace this with a dark space imitating base colour full of subtle glitter. If you want a lighter shade then ‘Super Star Status‘ gives a similar effect but with a silver base or alternatively ‘I Drive a SuperNova‘ has a similar silver shade without the glitter, which is great if you’re not a fan of sparkles. If you want to go a bit more celestial; ‘By the Light of the Moon‘ has a subtle amount of glitter with a silver tone that would make even Obi-Wan ponder; “that’s no moon.”
Lightsaber Manicured Nails
Almost every Star Wars fans has had a love affair with the iconic lightsaber since the first film was released all the way back in 1977, and while there is no Luke Skywalker lightsaber green in the OPI Starlight Collection, they do offer an amazing red that might be just right both for those hunting for that perfect red nail polish and fans of Darth Vader’s red lightsaber alike in ‘Love is in My Cards‘. If you happen to be a fan of Samuel L Jackson’s role as Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy you’ll no doubt be aware of his vibrant purple lightsaber which is excellently imitated by the rich purple that can be found in ‘I’m in the Moon for Love‘.
The Dark Side of the Manicure
There’s always something to be said of the more sinister characters in films, they are often really well characterised and have a great back story to explain why they went to the dark side, whether of the force or otherwise. If you’re a fan of the Sith these polishes invoke some must have darker shades that would make the emperor proud to have you as an apprentice. ‘Ro-Man-ce on the Moon‘ is a great dark red that perfectly fits in with the darker tones that were rising in popularity through the autumn months, and ‘Let Your Love Shine‘ and ‘Guys & Galaxies‘ go a step further with both embracing a darker shade of red. If you want to join in with the popularity of a subtle glitter accent to your darker shades of nail lacquer then the purple base of ‘Cosmo with a Twist‘ and the blue of ‘Give Me Space‘ will be right up your alley. If you really want to go dark then ‘No More Mr. Night Sky‘ is for you, this metallic graphite shade will suit any Sith or those looking for a darker nail polish.
These ARE the Nail Polishes You’re Looking For
No sci-fi film would be complete without some form of artificial intelligence or a robot or two for good measure, and Star Wars is no different and there are no shortage of iconic droids such as R2-D2 and C-3PO, and these lacquers from the OPI Starlight Collection have all the silver’s and gold’s that you could want. ‘Is this Star Taken?‘ isn’t quite C-3PO gold but still has that Droid sheen with glitter twist that keeps it in line with current trends, or alternatively ‘Comet Closer‘ achieves a similar tone without the glitter. If shades closer to gold aren’t your thing but you still want metallic shades, then the pink bronze of ‘Press* for Silver‘ is for you, and as with many of the lacquers in this collection it comes with a subtle glitter alternative in the form of ‘Ce-less-tial is More‘.

As we’ve stated before, the trend for glitter in cosmetics is exceptionally popular at the moment and if glitter filled nail lacquer is your thing then you’ll be pleased to know that OPI has you covered in their Starlight Collection with two polishes that will give your nails more sparkle than the Death Star exploding. ‘Infrared-y to Glow‘ has a galaxy’s worth of colour and glitter with an overall red hue and ‘Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Meteorite‘ imitates this but with more of a purple tone.
